Kimi wo Matteru
Sitting on the first place of the top Japanese songs 2019 is Kimi wo Matteru, sung by King & Prince. The song was written by Takahashi Yu. The song is about support and encouragement, especially for those who want to find their new self as well as looking forward for a new change. The song is included in the album – both in regular as well as Special Edition type. Besides this track, the album will include another song ‘Kaze ni Nore’ which had been appointed as the theme song for Benesse Corporation Shinken Zemi. The song was launched on March the 20th 2019. Even in Regular album, Kimi wo Matteru is coming with Wake Me up and Gutto Good Life.
Kyun
On the second spot, there is Kyun or Hepburn, which is a single debut from Hinatazaka46, a new idol group. The debut was first released on March the 27th 2019 by Sony. Kyun is included in J-pop genre and it was produced by Yoichiro Nomura while the lyrics were written by Yasushi Akimoto. The video itself was released via Youtube and the launch plan had been made from February the 11th. Besides releasing the video on Youtube, it was also made available on the group’s official site starting from March the 5th 2019. If you watch it, you will see a bunch of school students – 100 of them – dancing on the outdoor setting of the school.
Marigold
Another popular pick is Marigold by Aimyon. This is one of the popular Japanese songs today that talks about love as well as melancholy, so it isn’t too mellow or mushy. It is about love and feeling and how it can change because nothing is eternal. The song was released in August the 8th 2018 so it has been in the chart for a while. But because of its popularity, it remains in the chart. The song is included in the album, along with Marigold (instrumental version) and Anata no Tame ni (or For Your Sake). Marigold is Aimyon’s sixth single. For now, the song has also been included in commercial song for Google App.
Lemon
Lemon by Kenshi Yonezu is pretty likable. The single was released on March the 14th and the song is about death, especially related to the loss and sorrow when you lose your loved ones. The song is a part of TBS theme song for Unnatural which is a drama series broadcasted on Fridays. Yonezu was mostly asked about making songs for anime so he had no experience in making a piece for drama. But for this song, he was inspired deeply by his own relative’s death. The theme may be about death, but it becomes one of the most top Japanese songs 2019.

Flying Fish
If you like boy bands, there is Flying Fish from Fantastics. They are a part of Exile Tribe, but from the younger generation. They had just released their music video on March the 12th 2019. Fantastics is a J-pop (boy) grup musik consisting of 8 people. The single itself is about traveling and the beauty of it – including about the excitement about seeing new things and also exploring new places. The video is pretty cheerful and bright – depicting them traveling to the beach. This is a proof that not all boy bands would be about singing Japanese love songs.
Reiwa
If you like the element of surprise, there is Reiwa by Golden Bomber. They made a surprise by releasing a new single after the official Japanese government made an announcement about Reiwa – referring to a new masa after May the 1st after the new emperor is taking the throne. Just hour after the announcement, the J-pop clown princes are launching their new single. The group seemed to be successful in pulling their tricks – shown from their Youtube flooded by views and it reached the trending list.
Happy Birthday
Another option is Back Number with their Happy Birthday single sits comfortably on the spot. It’s their twentieth single which was launched on February the 27th. It was created for the theme song for a new drama series. The single is included in their CD, along with other singles such as Justice in the Box and Exhibition Death Match.
